Modern steppers w\ real drums

Postby brennan » Fri Feb 17, 2017 12:22 am

I unfortunately don't like most digital drums that are used on the modern and roots labels today but am hoping there might be some out there that do bring real drums to their productions.

Can the B&F readers point be in the direction of some releases that do use the real thing!

Thanks!!

Not steppers (although must admit I have a hard time pin pointing what actually is), even rocksteady here, but I just uploaded a new mix with modern roots with real live instruments (plus a few recycled riddims) and a traditional 60s/70s touch to 'm. Also melodica, dubs and all that. Maybe of interest to some reading this thread?

Thanks...really looking forward to checking this out! In 2014 I did a mix on WXYC 89.3 of all of the modern ska, rocksteady and reggae I could find on vinyl that were top knotch and was surprised at the how good they sounded!

Funnily enough, my brain has never really printed what steppers is exactly, unlike rockers ! If you give me a good example, i should probably be able to help you out.
Currently checking your neo-retro mix, which includes a lot of my fave sounds in that vibe. At any rate, if you need any pointers, i should also be able to help you out if you want to discover lots of bands who play great tunes in this vein from the 4 corners of the world, rarely mentioned in most surviving reggae forums. Feel free to drop me a pm.
