Sly & Robbie X Kenzo

Postby guillaumebougard » Wed Sep 28, 2016 3:40 pm

Fashion giant Kenzo have asked Sly & Robbie to play during their upcoming fashion show in Paris on October 4. The idea was that Robbie and Sly would play drum and bass during the show, scheduled to last 17 minutes. The sad thing is that S&R are playing in Honolulu on October 2 and there is not enough time to come to Paris and play, especially because stupid EU embassies take forever to grant visas and work permits to Jamaican artists nowadays.

So instead, Sly & Robbie have been asked to provide a 17 minute mix of material they have produced over the years. S&R, being the hard workers they are, provided 2 mixes and those include tracks by Grace Jones, Gwen Guthrie, Beenie Man, Tanto Metro & Devonte, Chaka Demus & Pliers, No Maddz, Ian Dury, stuff produced with Bill Laswell, but also a nyahbinghi cut, some old school dub and there is even a punk rock track they had recorded for a French non reggae singer... Quite eclectic and flowing nicely.

Thanks for the info guillaumebougard - would be interesting to hear that mix. Yes, they really seems busy and hard working, and I am looking forward to their concert here in Stavanger together with the great jazz componist and trumpeter Nils Petter Molvær in November. Also, according to an interview with Molvær they are currently working on an album together based on rhythms from Sly & Robbie. Do you have any info about this project, which riddims they will use etc? Any info much appreciated,
