thanks to dj and ganjalion for posting lists, i checked them all and discovered quite a few i didn't know, some very pleasant.
The dancehall selection sounded totally disastrous to these ears, though. Wimpish stuff very reminiscent of the second-rate generic ragga-soca of the 90's (no i don't mean the great Soca tunes from those days!), at best. Sad to see dancehall sounding like any mainstream club stuff coming from the 4 corners of the globe now ! :x
Glad to learn Runkus is Determine's son, doesn't sound the same for sure, unlike Sizzla and his son (who did some good stuff recently too). Glad to discover Sevana too (some strong tunes when she doesn't do the one-drop/nu roots stuff).
Very hard to follow what's going on because of the digital format, it's like swimming in an ocean ! Lots of boring riddims released every day would make you forget that nice tunes are still being released.
Yet, i don' think any of us will come up with anything else than our personal favourites and local hits. There is no such thing as "#1 summer hit" these days. What was the last reggae summer hit, btw? The one by Canadian pop-reggae group Magic ! uh...
Here are some favourites of mine this Summer :
The Sea - Pressure I
The Frightnrs - Dispute.
Arise Roots - Crisis
Runkus - Move Yuh Feet (real feel-good tune and video for the whole family!).
Latty J - Sweet Cannabis
Shanty B - Can't Stop Me (Both on Frenchie's Blueberry Haze riddim)
Richie Stephens & Ska Nation & Sean Paul & Gentleman - Original Style.

Bless Iankou think you have raised the best point in the thread so far the reggae game now hard to follow because of the digital format. No denying good roots music still being released. Not so sure about the dancehall business though......

Ha! I can't argue any of this. Dancehall nowadays is pretty bad when compared with the ragga greatness of the early-mid 90's that I came up on. But I have a soft spot for soft/pop style dancehall. I don't defend it, and recognize that at it's core it's very subpar music. But yet at the same time I enjoy it for what it is. I honestly don't think they're trying to break any barriers with this stuff.

respect!

The vocal tunes on Mykal Rose's Sidewalk Steppa album are top class from start to finish : what a return ! Hard to single out one, all equally good.
Neither classic roots, nor modern steppa, nor dancehall, neither nu roots. Just fine reggae !
Pretty good dubs too.
