Song ID 25yr old mix tape

Postby demroyiam » Sun Aug 10, 2014 6:23 pm

Hi All
About 25 years ago I was given a Reggae mix tape, that mix tape went every where with us, in the car, round at someones house party etc etc. I still have it and have enjoyed listening to it on a regular basis. The tape is starting to wear a little thin after all this time and the sound quality was never great to begin with.

I have managed to locate a few of the songs, the most recent addition to my collection from the mix tape being Trevor Hartley – This Must Be Love.
However there are two songs in particular that I can't figure out the titles of and I'm not quite sure who the artists are, I'm hoping that someone on here might be able to help.
I have some lyrics from each song. As I said earlier, they are from at least 25 years ago so it might be that your mum or dad would know them ;)

Song 1 starts:

She got to be ready yes to come and have a party
If you know the girls them not nice just line them up and have a party
Jeanette is my lover dont you see what I mean
I want to be the king and she be my queen
cos baby girl I want to put your hand in mine
and lets take love one at a time, now
If you know the girls them not nice just line them up and have a party (this line repeated many times throughout the song)

Song 2 starts:

I throw the raggamuffin irie in the party
make the people them feel so irie
Sharron a come and shake off all Audrey
Audrey a come and shake off all Suzy
Suzy a come and shake off all Beverley
They all of them a gather in a one posse
Come a dancehall just to listen to me, me ball

Any help on either song would be gratefully received, thanks for reading.

Sorry, I got nothing. Singers or DJ's on these tracks? Track 2, from the lyrics, sounds kind of UK.

Hi Donovan

Thanks for your reply, it's my day off tomorrow - I'll try and get the songs from my tape deck onto my youtube channel

Okay, song 1 I'm drawing a blank. But it definitely sounds like Steelie & Clevie production, vintage late 80's.

Song 2, I'm almost 100# sure is Lt. Stichie. I hope this helps.

Did I say Lt Stitchie? Yeah, I meant to say Derrick Irie. :)
