WANTED: RECORD LABEL...

Postby MANWEL T » Wed Jul 23, 2014 6:25 am

After 8 years of remixing other people's tracks, I have started doing some tunes on my own. Style is instrumental roots reggae (and dub versions of course) using authorised samples of real horns, etc. The vibe is reminiscent of late 70s/early 80s Jamaican roots. I would like to release some of these new tunes as singles on vinyl. Is there a label anywhere out there that might be interested in releasing such stuff?

it is nice stuff

If I may offer a piece of advice: RELEASE STUFF YOURSELF

it's fastidious, but it's easy. If you release online rather than have physical goods manufactured, it's even easier.

PM me if you need contacts for online distribution. I personnally signed with IODA back in 2005 and they were great, I now work with the Orchard following their acquisition of IODA and they are very good too.

For online distribution via itunes etc. try a distributor called AWOL (Artists Without Labels), i remember coming across them a few years back and narrowing them down to having the best deal and contract which was a 30 day rolling contract which excellent royalty rate, i think they only take 15-20% from all sales which was very good compared to all others i looked at at this time, not sure if their still going but well worth a look, they where a authorized itunes partner and distributed across hundreds of platforms, very easy sign up.
Self distribution isn't a bad idea either then you sell direct to the main stores and buyers. Good Luck...

Hi

Not sure if this is of any use to you, but have a look around the site http://amazingradio.com/
Essentially you upload your music, (to which you hold all the rights) and if enough people listen to it you get airplay on their radio station. You can also make your tunes available for download either free or paid for.

There are several current "popular" artists that started life on the site

Good luck
