What Is Euro Dub ?

Postby underated » Sat May 10, 2014 1:57 pm

Please post examples !

I hear that term all the time on this forum.
Everyone knows JA dub , primarily a 70's thing correct ?

Albo made a nice Dub album a few years back {IMHO]

Anyways whats this Euro Techno Stuff ?

What is weird dub ? [someone mentioned weird stuff on another thread ]
Don't think i have heard 'weird" music before.

Who are the popular Euro dub artists & producers ?

( assuming the term exists )

Stop listening to this devil spawn music,
People are making it with Mac Books & German Software ,
Then people smile while dancing to it in clubs .
How dare people have fun & enjoy themselves
Everybody should be depressed :)

That is shocking, we need good ole wholesome music .
Euro Dub is a disease .

Seriously i need do a Google search & see what i find.
Now i' m thinking about a show i used to watch years ago,
What was it called oh yeah " Euro Trash "
Don't know why that popped up .

Don't listen to Euro Dub ,
Computers & software always sound better in the islands.
Those Europeans don't know how to program Software :)

Well so many different people so many different tastes..I think you refer to music primarily made with computers and specialized software. Nothing wrong with that you still got to have some creative skills and talent for that. Not everyone has..There is great music in every category but sometimes you have to look hard to find it.

In the European (and particular UK) electronic scene there were/are some real freaks (not in a negative sense) they go as far as modifying the circuits on the boards of synths in order to just get a particular unique sound. I haven't really seen that for example with Euro dub type of things.
thank you putting this on here- best reggae track ever, apart from most bob marley tracks

Greetings,

First of all lets remember only about 5% or less of the audience truly get & accept the message of Rastafari.
No matter all the flag waving & shouting & pouting , not many spiritual man go a dance.

If any man was truly conscious of life & the meaning ,
Would they smoke cigarettes ?
Harm & destroy their body ?

I think the last time i went a Shaka dance was way back in 2000.
Back then i drank heavily, smoked cigarettes & weed , nodded my head & had a so called good time.

It's not like traditional dances where the man take female or even look for female,
{ not some kind of gay thing though}
Get high & listen to the drum & bass.

Would i go a dance now ?
It's not really my thing , i love 4 to the floor music for long time though,
from disco, steppas , all the way through all forms of electronic music.

I just don't care for all the sub genre names though,
i either like the sound or not,
Don't care if it's a group of musicians or some guy making a beat on a laptop,
If it's good it's good.

I have never regarded myself as a zombie.
Then again some rival football fans call my team that.

I do use the word from time to time to describe a block near where i stay
{ Zombie Land } due to the nearby meth clinic.

I don't think i 'm a zombie though,
I live a fairly clean life

Musical zombie perhaps,
I still nod my head to the beat everyday :)

That's what most people call UK dub/UK steppa, then, a scene which originated in the UK, in Shaka's trail, as a sort of reaction towards dancehall reggae - to summarize it - now has various offshoots on the continent. No one calls it euro dub.
That's probably that scene which has the most loyal followers nowadays, mainly because they don't spend their time backstabbing each other or setting up big ***** contests in the playground (joking, there are evident reasons but not everyone would find them suitable for a courteous discussion here). They are where they are because they developped a network by their own means, with enduring dedication, not because nobody would give a chance to Jamaicans (which couldn't be more untrue!). 2 pretty distinct scenes though several JA artists work with that scene, which, btw, is very popular on BAF forum (where some of its biggest names post regularly. A good number of the younger fans come from the techno / rave scenes.
There are a lot of acts / artists / fans in europe who absolutely don't go for that scene. It's far far from representing the wide variety of reggae played in europe, let alone the various approaches given to dub and (roots) reggae. Not my cuppa either but respect for achieving building a scene without following the usual traps and strategies of the (ex-) music biz.

while the existence of this genre has its merits... it's tough sounding, gives a second life to 70s roots reggae, sometimes i really go for that vibe. also sometimes i'm bored of reggae, and then these kind of bordercrossing genres, become more interesting.
the problem i have with the examples i know of is that often they lack a certain kind of vital 'soulful' for lack of a better word quality to them... in terms of riddim, not enough oxygen, not enough humanity (as opposed to programmed metronome)...
