The Last Great Producer

Postby underated » Thu Feb 20, 2014 12:24 pm

I was just wondering,
Who was the last great reggae producer ?

Who was a true game changer ?
In the past there seemed to be several , the music kept evolving & was interesting to listen to.
Now of course now i don't expect Producers to reinvent the wheel, too much has already been done,
Then again who knows ?

Perhaps a new young producer could appear on the scene & their take on reggae could be stunning, that can never be counted out.
So who was the last great producer ?

Just now I'm thinking that sound came somewhere in the 90's.
I know that can't be right.

Surely pioneers were still being creative later than that ?

Is the link related to topic ?
A bit wary to hit on it , as you have a history of going off topic .

Nice,

Still plenty of Kelly productions i still have to check out, those were creative times indeed.
Just thinking about the likes of Steelie & Cleavie & how they could make something old sound new.

From the Jamaican scene, my vote would have to go to Fatis Burrell / Xterminator

At the time - an original, exciting new sound with a top core team of musicians / engineers...

Caused a resurgence in 'conscious' Jamaican music

Found & developed a number of highly talented new artists but also did great works with veterans...

I think we will never see people again like this producing & rapidly building extensive catalogues - due to current music business conditions !

Sly & Robbie are still alive, kicking, and continue to produce great music for their TAXI label or for other record companies.

I would agree with Adrian Sherwood whole-heartedly, Fatis Burrell too. and I would also add Ryan Moore to the list! 8)
