I would guess 1964, since that's when Garvey's remains were sent from England to Jamaica for reburial.

my UK Island 7" press says 1965, so sometime around or slightly before that...

'Where' not when! Perhaps I should have said 'which studio' and/or 'for which producer' ! Answers on a postcard please. I'm hunching Studio One but that is only an educated guess. T.

Are you sure it was Studio One lankou? I thought this was one of the tracks the Skatalites recorded for Justin Yap on Top Deck.

Yep, sure, Mick. seems to have been recorded in 1965.The actual original credit is Bongoman Byfield - Where Is Garvey? (backed by The Skatalites).
Re-released in The UK on Island as MG, B-side to Guns of Navarone (1979), during the 2 Tone craze. First Skatalites tunes i got back then, and needless to say played to death, esp. the B-side!
Reburial, on Top Deck is the one that is connected to MG.

The credits on the original Ja. press on Muzik City, read "Where Is Garvey", Bongo Man, Roland Alfonso & The Studio One Orchestra/"Guns Of Navarone", Roland Alfonso and The Studio One Orchestra. There's also a number on the label: C.10

Does anyone has the full lyrics to this song?
I'm preparing a lecture about the rise and evolution of Rastafari for a non-English-speaking public.
Many thanks!
