Who was behind the LP King Size Dub?

Postby Apostle » Sun Oct 20, 2013 7:08 pm

Was flipping with my older brother through his teenage records recently and found back this baby:

Totally forgot about it but was gripped immediately by the mighty dub intro. Love those smoked out 90ies UK sounds!
I wonder who were the producers/musicians behind this LP, and were they involved in any other dub projects?

I had the CD and it had all the info on the back. I remember that AbaShanti did the mastering, but will have to dig it out to look for more.

Thanks for that info!
Anyone know who was I-Shensound? Were they a London crew? Did they have a soundsystem, did they organize things, or were they just musicians?

It might be my impression but you never hear things like this anymore, neither are there a lot of people that release a full dub album these days.
People write a lot about old dub albums on this forum but I don't see albums like that released today, more showcase style vocal + dub.

Google lead me to an older thread about it on b&f.
It seems to be the crew Dub Defector talks about. [url] viewtopic.php?f=1&t=37668&start=0&hilit=ishen+sound

Yep Apostle, that was the thread. The guy behind Ishen Sound, Grob, was a promoter who had been putting on punk, psychedelia, hardcore and The Orb in London under the name Sonic Relief. Heady days.

No real link with Aba apart from playing at House of Roots, and Aba cutting the album at JTS. Ishen didn't have their own sound system, but had residency at the George Robey. They ran an allnighter there for about a year along with Zion Train & Revolutionary Dub Warriors.

They weren't really musicians either, Dread I Knight (a junglist) did most of the (sample-based) recording work for them. There was also a 12" of Geronimo/Heavy Dub. Grob was a big fan of Iration Steppas' 'Scud Missile' at the time ;)
