Cultural Roots interview in Wax Poetics

Postby seb_carayol » Sun Sep 15, 2013 6:47 pm

Well, while we are self-promoting, right? (see Scientist post below) : Finally, my story of CULTURAL ROOTS just came out in the new issue of Wax Poetics magazine (#56) --it took quite some time to reach the last reachable member of the band (Wade Dyce) and gete few quotes from Donovan Germain, but, yes, it's done ! Some really cool photos of CR's last outfit feat Devon Russell, by Simon "Maverick" Buckland in there as well!
Very happy to heve been able to put this one together, this band had intrigued me for years!

fantastic. can't wait to read this. reggae needs a million more interview/features/coverage/journalism/whatever like this. Wax Poetics reggae coverage (and lack thereof) has been nothing short of embarrassing. no offense seb (or my boy carter) who has done stuff in there in the past to help rectify it. glad to see that.
i guess there's a shortage of serious "reggae writers" to give WP something more to show than reprinting david katz years-old writing (lol).

went out of my way to go buy a physical copy today but the store didn't have it in yet...

Oops... I assumed it was out already out of a newsletter I got from them. Sorry, RB!

Big up Seb !

Love Cultural Roots, very much looking forward to learning more about them.

Did you by chance speak with Wade Dyce about his solo song "Humble" ? A killer this one

Nice one, will dive into that as soon as it's out. Wax Poetics is one of my fave magazines out there. Also enjoyed the piece about Stax (by Ericka Danois) very much. (will that be printed as well?)

As for reggae in WaxPoetics, I would love to see more, but when they do it, I generally enjoy the articles. Wouldn't mind if they printed some of the Pressure Beat interviews, though 8)

Oh I knew you'd know, Anbessa. Doing pieces for 20 Minutes in Marseille was the most grueling experience in my life -where even 1,500 characters is considered "a bit long"!
