Anyone going to Reggae Jam Germany this August?

Postby dubitup » Thu Jul 11, 2013 6:50 pm

I have been a few times before, but this year its looking like I might have to go it alone, hence asking if anyone else is going :)

For those of you who haven’t heard of this festival its located in North West Germany, right in the middle of a small town of Bersenbruck, 20 miles north of Osnabrück, and:
- Is consistently voted the best reggae festival in Germany (where there are many)
- Has a unique friendly/relaxed atmosphere
- Features all sub genres i.e. vintage, dancehall, roots, established/up and coming artists, but no commercial artists like other festivals in Germany
- The highest percentage of foundation acts of any festival I've known (and for the last 7 years I have gone to around 6 EU Reggae festivals a year)
- You have the Opportunity to see every artist and thanks to two adjacent stages the music flows constantly with no gaps for band changes, etc
- A full weekend ticket inclusive of camping costs only 65 Euros, much less if you purchase an early bird ticket
- The majority of artists, even those who haven’t preformed for many, many years are backed by a full band, (normally the excellent 'House Of Riddim')
- You get many exclusive artists that don’t perform at other festivals i.e. in 2012 the Silvertones, Jays, Pinchers, Lt Stitchie, Kirk Davis, Pad Anthony, Captain Barkey & Wickerman, Half Pint, Meeks & Meeks, Mega Banton, the list goes on
- Fairly priced and nice variety of food and drink
- The main stage is open until 1/2 am, and dancehall tent stays open thereafter, the Saturday is the longest reggae festival day in Europe, something like 12am until 6pm!

The cons are its location, its not the easiest place to get to from the UK, you have 3 options, the travel might seem like a lot of effort - but once your there its more than worth it.

1) Drive - its 375 miles from Dover

2) Fly; either to Bremen (59 miles, and served by Ryan Air, etc from across the UK) or Münster/Osnabrück (21 miles, but less served, in fact I think only via a small propeller plane from London City Airport) to get to Bersenbruck you can get a taxi (most efficient and expensive option) or get the bus (15 mins) > Bremen station then train > Osnabrück 50 Min, Then train > Bersenbruck 30 Min, so about 2 hours of travel after landing.

3) Eurostar > Brussels (Belgium) 2 hours, train > Koln (Germany) 110 Mins, train to Osnabrück (Germany) 130 Min, Train to Bersenbruck (Germany) 30 Min - with change over’s this takes about 10 hours

If your a happy camper there is plenty of room for camping, but it is a remote area so there aren’t many hotels or B&B's, the majority are booked for the artists, there is a plus side to this though if you get into a hotel your likely to meet the artists at breakfast, as I did last year.

For those of you who cant make it, the entire festival is broadcast on Ragga Kings Internet Radio From 5pm Friday 2nd August.
