Just got this in a newsletter from Trojan (Universal):
Last year the team behind Trojan Records decided to create Boss Shots as a single umbrella label for the various Jamaican music imprints within the Universal Music fold. Sadly, in May we had to say farewell to Trojan after the Sanctuary Records Group was bought by BMG in line with a EU ruling following Universal's acquisition of EMI Records.
So now Trojan is owned by another giant, BMG. I wonder if they will continue to go forward with their craft, limited edition singles, or start churning out Tighten Up collections again. Either way, it's been a confusing few years for Trojan. Their flood of releases in the 2000s has slowed to a trickle, and finding a comprehensive listing of what's new from Trojan is difficult.
