Soulful tunes, recommendations?

Postby Blindman » Sat Jun 15, 2013 3:23 pm

What do you rate as the most soulful tune?
As a diehard soul music fan I alsways appreciate a good piece of soul-influenced music, so I´d love if you could recommend some tunes in which you´re able to hear the influence of american soul music. It doesn´t necesserily has to be covers, but anything with soulful vibes counts!

One of my personal favourites is this one!

Thanks in advance

I love soul music too and soulful JA music even more.I've always felt most of the jamaican covers superior to the originals which often lack in bass...Besides covers, soul influenced heavily most my favourite roots tunes.
Anyway Ken Boothe's "Because I'm Black" on Splash 7" or Junior Murvin's "Rescue the Children" on Move & Groove would be on top of my list.
...who feels it knows it...

Some great examples of soulful reggae can be find on BAF Darker than blue compilation. This along with jesus dread is my most played BAF release.

Nuff big soulful tunes, specially from the 70's. Quoting myself from the Tune of the day thread  :

Tyrone Taylor-Move Up Black Man (Sheli 7"), been on a bit of soulful 70's reggae spree for the last couple of days enjoying big voices like Lloyd Parks, Joe White, Tyrone Taylor, Ken Boothe, etc. This one on a wicked mid 70's beat with funky drumming and some serious piano licks...

Just bought this one on a 7" from a friend, it's like Isaac Hayes on a reggae beat! Terrific!

I've got a Slim Smith unknown tune thats got the sweetest lyric "I never knew that you were gone, make believe we have been in love too long" over a funky reggae beat (1968-71 style). Came on a Techniques repress b/w Prince Fari Deck of Cards (random 'any two tunes will do' pressings lol)

If you don't know it, Ernest Wilson, "I Know Myself" is about as soulful a vocal performance as can be found
