Ah yes Mr. Berry, I had seen them but as you say they are expensive. I was just generally disappointed that they had made the move. The last pair I bought were classic 1460's, 8 hole, oxblood. They are in their 6th year but just don't seem as good.
They do make Doc Martens 'For Life' line which they will repair/replace for the rest of your life and they are cheaper than the made in England products.
Bought my first pair, or rather my mum bought them, when I turned 13. There used to be a kind of army surplus store (the name escapes me) and they had a branch in Bromley North. 12.99 pounds if I remember rightly. "He'll grow out of them before he wears out of them madam" said the clerk - I was just grateful that he was backing up my choice as my mum was eyeing the same 1460's, 8 hole, oxblood very dubiously. Had a pair of Docs ever since - currently have three pairs one of which is their desert boot model - a little smarter for the office.
