Reggae Anthology - The Channel One Story CD

Postby richteratmosphere » Sun Dec 12, 2004 7:13 am

I've been enjoying this double disc anthology that came out on VP this year. I'm not sure if this is the definitive anthology for Channel One, but this set, Well Charged, and Maxfield Avenue Breakdown hit the spot for me.

Maxfield Vs. Channel One Story

Postby richteratmosphere » Sun Dec 12, 2004 11:54 pm

It's not as dub oriented as Maxfield. There are some DJ mixes on Channel One Story. Overall, I like it better than Well Charged (there isn't that much overlap between Well Charged and Channel One Story).

The sound quality on the Reggae Anthology has been remastered or remixed quite a bit I believe - I have some of the same tracks on other compilations where they sound much more natural. There was a discussion about this on the old board some time ago.

id agree with you on sound quality Ital Dokta, the Vp compilation sounds quite heavily remastered, listening to the diamonds i need a roof on this lp and then on the diamonds lp (cant remember exact title now ) the vp lp sounds 'too modern'. overall its a good intro to channel 1 but theres lots more to dig out.
ive never found a website with a discography of channel 1 /hitbound/ cha cha etc titles yet, any offers?

Yep, some heavy processing of some sort going on on that VP release (never know quite how to describe these things)...as for a Channel One/Hitbound site, I think a certain boarder here mentioned having one in the works some time ago on the old board...

Yes, 18 months on and I'm still writing it. I've now written the introduction, and am working on the creation of the rockers sound, Mighty Diamonds taking Channel One to the top of the charts, etc at the moment. Got some great articles, scanned pictures, labels and reviews of the period. It's just getting the time to get the thing written and a site constructed.
Maybe it's time to get something up on the web I can just add to when I've got time.
