Skatalites & Friends - Phoenix City (Trojan - 2 CD)

Postby BMC » Sat Dec 11, 2004 11:23 am

Received this CD as a gift the other week and really dig it! 54 tracks on two CD's, mainly Reid productions. Wicked selection imo. Haven't noticed much mention of it or maybe I just missed it. What's the verdict from other baffers?

fantastic set, trademark poor sound quality here and there (Girl's Town Ska is pretty bad) but the selection is hard to fault - you'll need Foundation Ska (heartbeat) too for Studio One cuts out of Trojan's reach, only a few tracks repeated (Silver Dollar is worth repeating though)

Agreed with the Doc, great set only let down by the occasional track with iffy sound quality - mostly Treasure Isle killers such as Cool Smoke, Don De Lion, Alley Cat Ska, etc.

Yeah, a shame about the sound quality on some of these tracks, though the majority plays reasonable at least. The quality of the tunes makes more than up for it though. :)
