Wow - fascinating to see..

Gotta love the look of TriX

I assume that amp is one of Tubby's builds (?) - very tidy work under the hood...

Interesting pics of Channel One too - this has to be one of the best photos I've ever seen of the console, great perspective - you can really see what a compact desk it was (API 1604 - a total classic)

Robin if you want to credit the first person to point out this amazing serie it's Mr Staxawax over at Pama...

BTW, who is the guy supposed to be Bunny Lee, I don't recognize him at all but he's credited on a lot of photos...

Hey - looks like an AKG C-12 mic on this Channel One session.
A legendary $$$ valve mic of top studio fame.
Originals sell for about $12-15 grand these days

Indeed. What a huge deal it was for Channel One to have the island's first API board, and what a big difference in sound quality.

Not to hijack the thread, but there's a another good image of that API board in an 80s Junjo session in the forthcoming Greensleeves album cover coffee table book (sorry for the bad scan from the Waxpoetics reggae issue, photographer is unknown)

it's Crucial Bunny, he's correctly identified on some of the other photos.

That's a nice colour pic of the Ch 1 API!

Amazing to see more documentation emerge from those days.

I'm still hoping to see some of the mythical King Tubby footage to emerge (the supposed Japanese documentary footage for example).

I hope some of this still exists, if it ever did.

Yes this is very nice to see.... makin your spliff on the multitracktape box. But what did they record to ? is it 2x 1/2 "8 track synced. And 1 mastererecorder i assume.

In the pics it looks to me like the recorders are from left to right:

Ampex AG-440 with 4 track electronics/headstack (1/4 or 1/2 inch prolly)
Studer A-80 tape deck with 4 track electronics/headstack (1/4 , 1/2, 1 inch tape?)
Ampex AG-440 1/4 / or 1/2 inch 2 track

All classic killer-sounding decks.

It is possible that the 2 x 4 tracks were run together in sync to make 8. I wonder if they did that?

In the pics when the guy is trancing out mixing it looks like there's reels on all the machines.

On the desk it looks like he's using 6 faders for the mix so could suggest they recorded on 6 channels...
assuming any fx returns aren't going to those faders. Perhaps one of the 4 trks was getting used for tape delay.
