I am listening to the Nitty Gritty - General Penetentiary LP and am so impressed with nearly everything I hear on this label - Definitely one of my favorite mid 80s labels and type of sound. Two questions:
1 - Is the General Penetentiary track on the Lp different from the mix on the 12"? I sold my 12" awhile back - but as I listen to the LP mix I must have been crazy - I liked the 12" but didn't feel it was as heavy to mix I'm hearing now -

2. The other Black Victory Productions I have are -
Willie Williams - Home Sweet Home
Sugar - Sheriff John Brown (murder tune and my favorite - although the Willie is in a close second)
Colorman - Budget
Tenor Saw - Victory Train
Nitty Gritty - General Penetentiary LP

What else am I missing? Thanks

One killer 12" released this year

(A)
GENERAL PENITENTIARY - Nitty Gritty
DUB - Studio One Band

(B)
THIS TRAIN (AKA VICTORY TRAIN) - Tenor Saw
DUB - Studio One Band

Anyone know

Who are the Studio One Band (also featured on Freddie McGregor's Push Come To Shove)

Who produced these two tracks? Was it Witty?

can`t think of any other releases on the label....i think the Studio One Band in question at least consisted of Earl `Bagga` Walker and Pablove Black, they at least can be seen on the pic sleeve that originally came with the Victory Train 12"....a guy called Ibo was the exec producer (read money man) and i think label owner, he apparently turned christian (or some other similar type of religion) renounced all his works and threw the master tapes in a skip, that was the story i heard anyway !
