pictures of charlie ace's swing a ling van needed

Postby jb welda » Tue Dec 07, 2004 4:49 am

does anyone know of a site with photos of charlie aces mobile disco and record stand? i would especially like one with photos from different angles, but at this point any would do.

i saw a cd with a couple of good photos on it but i forgot its title...i believe its from the past few months and is a compilation, maybe from the uk. anyone know what the title might be?

finally, is this vehicle shown in Rockers? i cant recall right offhand...i do think its shown in roots rock reggae. reason i ask about video is i could capture frames from a dvd and print them out i guess...

in case anyones interested, i found a 1/24 scale model that im planning on modifying and handpainting to build a replica of the van...though i would be tempted to put a Lotus motor in it.

many thanks in advance!

one love

I think the CD you are referring to is a Trojan release (possibly "Funky Kingston" compilation). Anyway, have you tried Trojan website yet?

well that pretty much covers the left side of the car...and i can see it changed over the years (the top photo from the trojan release (i dont think thats the one im after though) has some retouching done to it.

thanks for those photos...anyone know of any of the other side?

seems i could more or less free form it though...probably changed a bunch throughout the years.

The likeliest source is probably Urban Image JB.

You have to register to use their site but they have some amazing reggae related photos and they have a seperate 'record van' section for this particular van:

Sorry JB - I've forgotten my registration details and haven't bothered re-registering.

It is an amazingly good archive of reggae related photos though.

I think you should go take a look.

There's only pictures of the left side there, JB. Maybe Charlie was embarassed by the right hand side for some reason.

The site is worth signing up for, their are a huge amount of great pictures there, from the reggae world and otherwise.
