Favourite B&F Vocal release (part 1) ?

Postby Pluto » Sat Dec 04, 2004 3:12 pm

The 'favourite B&F release' is a topic that was occasionally raised in the old B&F forum. So, I've divided the catalogue into 4 types of releases (dub, DJ, vocal, instrumental) and made 6 polls (the vocal and dub ones had to be divided in 2 as the poll didn't allow more than 10 options).

Here are the other polls:

Favourite B&F DJ release
http://www.bloodandfire.co.uk/db/viewtopic.php?t=216

Favourite B&F Dub release (part 1)
http://www.bloodandfire.co.uk/db/viewtopic.php?t=217

Favourite B&F Dub release (part 2)
http://www.bloodandfire.co.uk/db/viewtopic.php?t=218

Favourite B&F instrumental release
http://www.bloodandfire.co.uk/db/viewtopic.php?t=219

Some of the releases do not exactly fit in one category (Yabby You - Jesus Dread, Sylford Walker/Welton Irie, Horace Andy - In The Light / Dub), but I've placed them on the 'vocal' one for being predominantly such.

I think that it would be more 'democratic' to cast more than one votes (i.e. vote for 2 titles), but the poll technology doesn't allow that. You can post a message and say what you've voted for and what were the run-off choices.

Here, I've voted for the Congos, but this was a very tough choice with so many other classic releases (Yabby U, Prince Alla, Burning Spear) and other personal favourites (Chantells, Max Romeo). But the Congos is a fantastic release in many terms: music, photography, presentation etc.

P.S. I haven't got all the B&F back catalogue  (I intend to), so feel free to post even if you don't have every single release.

This is a really tough category but for me there was no choice but the Congos...the first B&F release I ever bought (and I now have 'em all!) and the one where, as stated above, the music and graphics just all came together in one beautiful package...

Impossible to choose between that selection. They're 10 of my favourite BAF releases, but I did go for the Max Romeo as he didn't have any votes and it deserves at least 1! :)

Prince Alla for me, followed by the Chantells and then Congos in third.

I'm gonna dip for 129 Beat St...for the sheer variety of the vocal tracks - quality underrated release!

Jesus Dread gets my vote. This is probably my favourite collection of music full stop.

I'm interested to see the no. of votes for the Chantells set as compared to B&Fs comments about the general low sales of that set.

Max Romeo. Although I suspect once I get 'Good Vibes' I might think different.

"There's more than 500 members on this board and only 29 votes???"

Well, I for one only voted in polls where I know if not all, at least most of the candidates. Doesn't make sense to choose my fav from 10 albums if I've actually listened through only half of them. As unlikely as it may seem, I guess that I'm not alone among the 500 as someone who does not own all BAF releases.
