call him ackie or ackee or?

Postby I-brow » Sat Oct 21, 2006 4:57 pm

Hi, After browsing through the forum, I officially gave up trying to find Ackie's contact (the singer to "call me rambo") and amazingly enough, I wasn't after him for a dub plate ! Serious.

Anyway though, a few questions : is Ackie the same singer than the one who used to sing Raggamuffin time and raggamuffin Boogie rock on two Route one 12''s (credited to " Ackee") ?

Also, I've heard that "call me rambo" had been out back in the days on a 12'' on Route One as well, is that right? did it come before or after the Heavyweight 12''?

Last but not least, I'm trying to figure out what would be the two other vocals on the "call me rambo" instrumental... Who would that be?

Thanks to anybody who can help solve all those mysteries...

The next vocal cut to this riddim (without machine gun & helicopter samples) is Stop It Stop it by dennis d selector, route one 12".
Dunno if another one exists also...

It's the same Ackee that sang Call Me Rambo and the 2 tunes you mentionned.

These 2 12inches were on ebay a couple of weeks ago, went for big money but I didn't really like the stuff (not enough to spend more than 100 pounds !)

yeah, sounds like it...

Just the one last question that left me perplexed, if you ever know :

Also, I've heard that "call me rambo" had been out back in the days on a 12'' on Route One as well, is that right? did it come before or after the Heavyweight 12''?

On the same riddim (to my ears anyway), but not exactly the same cut is the track Naturally - Sunny Get Blue. Without all the machine gun crap.

No dont think Call me Rambo has been released on Route one 12"...only on Heavyweight 12".
Regarding the 2 others cuts on Route One, Lick them is a killer tune, same vibes than Call me rambo, monster digital riddim I love that tune so much.
The other one on Route one yellow label call Roughneck time is weak...
The Lick them / Raggamuffin boogie rock 12" sold for 175£ few weeks ago on ebay...

Could not agree more Mallem. That one needs to see re-issue. Especially if 175 GBP is the going rate.

I've got another one from Ackee/Ackie too - on a similar rougneck/ragamuffin/rambo type theme but from about 88ish (I'm guessing from the riddim). I can't remember what it's called off the top of my head, but I'll have a check round when I'm near my records later. So far as I remember it's almost really corny, but has the edge to make it strangely tuff. (I think there may be a coming out of jail theme going on actually...).

Zonard, you can read french, right? Lucky you...
The latest natty Dread magazine out of france, I just found it, has an extensive article about Call Me Rambo and I can decipher the words "route One" etc in it, still working on it but sounds like the kind of info you were after.
very good mag.
