Yes, I Roy's number is pure killer. Exact name is "Don't touch I man Locks".

Sir Bellyas

Thanks for the feedback.

'Speak Softly' is the album I think it 'should' be on as it is similarly produced by Tony Robinson and has 'The Message' ('African Message' on the 'Dread In A Babylon' album) on it.

I don't have the Bunny Lee / Yabby U 'Don't Touch I Locks', but do have I Roy's version which I think is awesome. Must check out the Bunny Lee / Yabby U version.

Barrington does seem to get relatively bad press, but I do think the 'Runaway Girl' vocal is absolutely brilliant.

Yeah, Speak Softly, my mistake. Good luck with the 7" search, I've been waiting for it to fall into my lap for decades.

The first time I heard it was on a Virgin Front Line Sampler which came out in 1976 and retailed at 59p. I still have the album and it still sounds unbelievable 30 years later!! What a track.

Yes ! I love the beginning, after the intro, when the skank stops, you only have drum, bass and voice running. There's a great dialogue between Barrington and I Roy :

"Don't touch I dread (oh no that's wrong), look but don't touuuuuuuch... Take your hand from I head (you must sing the song), you touch touch too muuuuuuch..."

Masterpiece.

Reviving a 2006 thread here! ;)

Any news on the original vocal track of U-Roy's Runaway Girl?
I would love to hear Barrington Spence's version!
