i've recently come into around 200 american oldies 45s of varying styles. labels include Checker, Specialty, Tamla, and tons more.

in fact it's a Tamla that has inspired me to ask for some help.. in going through the tunes i set a few aside that really hit me, and searched the web for info. one i mentioned here the other day -- Mabel John "No Love".

when i searched for that, i came up with this:

http://capitolsoulclub.homestead.com/Ra ... wn45s.html

i have a few others from those lists too...

others that stuck with me were Nappy Brown "Any Time Is the Right Time", Clyde Otis "Peanut Vendor", and a Gladys Knight & the Pips on Fury...

there are a lot of less-interesting tunes, but i'd like to get some better context on what i've got.

can you guys (or anyone) please suggest good websites or other info sources?

thank you

ps- Juha i know you'll be extra glad to help since i am your favorite baffer

That Capitol soul club site is a good one, here's a few others:

http://www.melingo.com/thesoulnet/

http://www.soulfulkindamusic.net/ (has some great discographies)

http://soulfuldetroit.com/ (has a forum similar to this one, where you can get loads of info - I don't use it much myself as I'm more into Southern/Deep Soul)

http://www.ritchie-hardin.com/main.html (a top site run by Lt.Ritchie - ex head honcho of the Trojan board. Check the link to the "Don't Forget The Motor City" site for a complete listing of Motown labels and 45s)

southernsoul-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

e-mail address for the Southern Soul forum - if you wish to join, send a brief introduction, who you are, what sort of soul you like, where you're from etc. You need to open a Yahoo account(free) I think.

http://www.raresoulforum.co.uk/ Another great forum run by a mate of mine, this may be your best bet for info - once again, send a message to the owner mentioning a bit about yourself, what tunes you're into, etc.

That lot should keep you going for a while!
