Scientist and Prince Jammy Strike Back

Postby richmrpa » Thu Jun 29, 2006 1:25 pm

Just picked this up for a few quid - pretty good album I thought.

The rhythms are quite dry and typical early 80's radics style and the mixing is pretty damn good. Some nice effects and some serious dubbing. I enjoyed it as much, possibly more, than the often talked about Scientist albums. Recommended (if you like that kind of thing).

Mind you it's hard to go wrong with track names like The Crushing of The Stormtroopers.

Available at EB's for not much.

Without doubt one of the best dub albums of all time!

I love this release too. I hope that Revolutionaries / Linval Thompson's Outlaw Dub gets a reissue from Trojan. I think some of the songs have appeared on various Sly And Robbie / Revolutionaries / Dub compilations on Trojan, but it would be nice to get all of them in one place.

Yeah great album for sure.

Particularly love the cover!! Was a huge Star Wars fan when I was younger and always had a laugh at the cover which features snowspeeders in Space!!!!, far removed from the icy environment they could only operate in!!!!!

If i remember correctly, it has quite a few Freddie McGregor tracks from Big Ship LP

Nice mixing but too many major key riddims to make me dribble on the turntable

From memory also Barrington Levy's Poor Man Style has some riddims dubbed on Strike Back, but that album has some riddims in common with Big Ship so might be simply the same ones.

Ya, definitely a top album. Even right up there with Scientists Greensleeves work. Once I heard this dub LP I went searching for other stuff employing these Linval versions.

You can find some of the rhythms used running through:

Freddie McGregor - Big Ship
Barrington Levy - Poor Man Style
The Viceroys - We Must Unite

and possibly Linval Thompson - Look How Me Sexy (can't check at the moment)

There has got to be plenty of DJ versions as well.
Tough, tough, tough!
luv it
