Most Annoying Reggae Song Ever...

Postby Aaron » Fri Jan 21, 2005 9:47 pm

Not counting travesties like "Don't Turn Around", "Dreadlock Holiday", Sting, etc., my Most Annoying Reggae Song Ever....is Joe Gibbs & the Professionals' "Massive Fire".

Especially the one on the left, doesn't he just look like the type to talk smack about his "friends" as soon as they fly away?

Actually I do ignore the ones I don't like.
There's so much good stuff out there and enough I still don't know!
Why waste your time with the rotten apples?

Anyway, one that's pretty bad is the hidden track on the Trojans Rarities Box. Something by Emperor Rosko?
But on the other hand this song has a kind of novelty factor that is quite funny...

As I think further, I'm pretty sure I heard, not one, but several most annoying songs ever on the Trojan Ras Box Set. However, I only listened to the thing once and so can't remember specifically.

That's the right spirit, Aaron!
Listen to it, dislike it , immediately forget about the tune and move on to something better

Obviously, if I thought I simply wasn't getting it, I'd hang on to it and give it a go at some future point. I've come around to several albums in this way. But, the Ras Box Set was so at odds with a sound and vibe I like, I felt totally comfortable getting rid of it.

I really can't stand Welton Irie's 'Army Life'. It's not in the least bit funny and it's not even redeemed by having a great rhythm or delivery.

I think Ephteeay might disagree with you there Mark...personally I think it's a funny song. "They say that in the army, the food is very fine / a dumpling fell off the table and killed a friend of mine"

My pick for nausea inducing reggae moment would have to be Ruddy Thomas singing "Let's Make a Baby".

boy...

boy...

Now in the street there is violence
And a lots of work to be done
No place to hang out our washing
And and I can't blame all on the sun

Wegonna rock down to Electric Avenue
and then we'll take it higher
Oh, we gonna rock down to Electric Avenue
and then we'll take it higher

Workin' so hard like a soldier
Can't afford a thing on TV
Deep in my heart I am warrior
Can't get food for them kid

Good God
We gonna rock down to Electric Avenue
and then we'll take it higher
Oh we gonna rock down to Electric Avenue
and then we'll take it higher

Oh no, Oh no, Oh no,Oh no

Oh no we gonna rock down to Electric Avenue
and then we'll take it higher
Oh we gonna rock down to Electric Avenue
and then we'll take it higher

Who is to blame in what country?
Never can get to the one
Dealin' in multiplication
And they still can't feed everyone

Oh no we gonna rock down to Electric Avenue
and then we'll take it higher
Oh no we gonna rock down to Electric Avenue
and then we'll take it higher

Out in the street
Out in the street
Out in the playground
In the dark side of town

Oh we gonna rock down to Electric Avenue
and then we'll take it higher
Oh, we gonna rock down to Electric Avenue
and then we'll take it higher

Out in the street
Out in the street
Out in the playground
In the dark side of town

Oh, we gonna rock down to Electric Avenue
and then we'll take it higher
Hey, we gonna rock down to Electric Avenue
and then we'll take it higher

Ohh yeah
(Rock it in the daytime,
Rock it in the night )
