Working For The Weekend

by Loverboy

Everyone's watchin' to see what you will do
Everyone's lookin' at you, Oh
Everyone's wonderin' will you come out tonight
Everyone's tryin' to get it right, get it right

Everybody's workin' for the weekend
Everybody wants a new romance
Everybody's goin' off the deep end
Everybody needs a second chance, Oh

You want a piece of my heart
you better start from the start
you wanna be in the show
c'mon baby let's go

Everyone's lookin' to see if it was you
Everyone wants you to come through
Everyone's hopin' it'll all work out
Everyone's waiting to hold you out

Everybody's workin' for the weekend
Everybody wants a new romance, hey yeah
Everybody's goin' off the deep end
Everybody needs a second chance, Oh

You want a piece of my heart
you better start from the start
you wanna be in the show
c'mon baby let's go

Hey

You want a piece of my heart
you better start from the start
you wanna be in the show
c'mon baby let's go

You want a piece of my heart
you better start from the start
you wanna be in the show
c'mon baby let's go

The Jam

HERE COMES THE WEEKEND

If we tell you that you've got two days to live
Then don't complain, 'cos that's one more than you'd get in Zaire -
So don't hang around and be foolish
Do something constructive with your weekend -
From Monday morning I work for Friday nights
Collect my wages, then try to paint on the smell of soap -
'Cause tonight I get ready early
Score what I need and go pick a girl up
It seems like ages since we had some fun -
Here comes the weekend - I get to see the girls
Long live the weekend, the weekend is here
(the weekend starts here)
Everything feels right now
I know why I'm alive now
Everything else is a lie now
Now I know why I'm here
Here comes the weekend - I'm gonna do my head
Long live the weekend, the weekend is dead

I always liked the facial expressions of Matt Wallace when he plays drums, or at least he used to gulp like a goldfish on every snare hit..pretty funny..

FWIW - I used to work at a studio lots that was next to Save on Meats down on E Hastings..'interesting' area as you know..
The people from the studio told me a brother of one of the Loverboy guys
was supposedly dealing crack or other sundries from a storefront across the street...

The building the studio was in - Miller Block - had chinese triads / mafia running a brothel on one of the floors for a while - we used to hear some f*cked up stuff going on down there, the girls getting slapped around etc..

The police raided it eventually and thought the guys from the studio were part of the operation - they came in trying to break the back door down & put guns to everybody's heads..it was a heavy scene, I wasn't there, but my friend running the place got the gun treatment and also a guy recording there that day - ironically a devout Mormon who didn't even touch coffee ..

The officer in charge finally came around and deduced that the guys had nothing to do with the activities downstairs...and so they went..

Yep, pretty "colourful" neighbourhood down there as you say...pretty heavy dealings with the studio crowd, time to lock yourselves indoors for the night and call yourselves the Overnight Players... :)

Always thought Mike Reno had a great rock'n'roll frontman sneer going on...

Indeed - it always felt like we were barricaded in an oasis with the elements of evil outside constantly prowling, trying to find its way in..
FWIW anytime a door was left open by mistake (2 x) for longer than 5 minutes someone came in and stole something..
One time an upstairs window was left open a hair & somehow someone managed to climb up cat burgler style, sneak in and steal petty cash and CDS, what was freaky was I was sleeping there at the time (!)..
We figure they spotted me & didn't voyage further into the studio part..
I didn't wake up - pretty disturbing imagining some crackhead just out of jail tiptoeing around stealing all the stuff just metres from where I lay..
Ironically the street just outside got safer, in terms of random violence / bad vibe once a Salvadoran drug gang took over (!)...it somehow brought some level of control & stability..
