FSOL / Miles Davis / Mingus ? (non-reg)

Postby pannyd » Mon Jan 17, 2005 11:41 am

Sorry to post a non reggae question in here but I've had no luck on other forums and I seem to remember there's some "right clued up geezers & geezettes" on BAF.

The question :

Back in 1992-3 , Future sound of London recorded / played a lot of long ambient sets using a very eclectic mix of sounds from dub to film soundtracks. Featured throughout MANY of these sets was a horn solo which I think was either Miles or Charlie Mingus. I seem to remember it being quite a "famous" track , very melancholic.

Any help greatly appreciated.

It wouldn't be Charles Mingus as he played bass

Miles albums which could fit the bill of what you mention & are great nevertheless:

Kind of Blue
Get up With it
Sketches of Spain

Hope that helps,

You say horn - do you mean trumpet or sax?
Either way, you could try googling Future Sound of London with names of horn players - eg:
John Coltrane
Miles Davis
Eric Dolphy
and all the other horn players from Mingus and Miles' bands....!
