Leslie Butler - Ja-Gan LP

Postby quadruped » Mon Jan 17, 2005 11:28 am

I recently acquired a copy of Leslie Butler's "Ja-Gan" LP on the Trojan label, sat down to listen to it and I thought it sounded strangely familiar. Unless I'm mistaken, it is the same LP as the Sylvan Morris / Harry J "Morris On Dub" LP which I used to have on the Jaywax label.

In particular, there is a tune based on Ben E King's "Stand By Me" which I recalled from the Morris On Dub LP. I'd be grateful if anyone can confirm that the two LPs are identical.

I don't know about the Morris On Dub LP as I've never heard it, but I can tell you that the JA version of Ja Gan was called Gan Ja. Obviously Trojan turned the title round.
I've had copies of both the UK and JA press and they're the same.
Can't recall the JA label - Harry J, or Jaywax maybe.

Thanks Door Peeper - I saw the Ganja LP on Ebay recently and wondered if Ganja was the same LP as Ja-Gan. I figured it probably would be (given the similarity of title and cover illustration) but nice to have it confirmed.

Still curious to know if Morris On Dub is also the same record.
