dave & ansel - double barrel is a cut of ??

i heard a cut of this one (non reggae).. i guess the original version ?? or is the ansel version original? could someone tell me what it was?

I don't know about a non-reggae version. But if you are trying to piece together the history of Double Barrel, it was based on, and pre-dated by, Ansel Collins' 'Nuclear Weapon'. It's a straight organ-based instrumental cut issued on Techniques 7" around 1968. These days it's most widely available on the 'Rare Groove' Trojan Boxed Set.

ill try hear that trojan one.. i was kinda surprised yesterday when i heard something very similar to double barrel but not dbl brl on the radio last night!!

That's probably version by a US singer Stephanie McKay you have heard, FTA. Nice R&B cut over a sample of Doube Barrel. It was released in 2003, I think.

it was an instrumental and sounded old.. i dont know how old.. but old!.

meaning.. maybe it wasnt old but it was real music with instruments.. and had an old feel!

DB 'adopted/adapted' from....

Ephteay, I think 'DB' was adapted from a late 60s New Orleans funk tune, at least the main melody line was. I'll try to locate it here and post info. Of course, it sounds different stylistically but the main melody is there.

thanks mr barrow... that must be the one i heard !
the only time i ever listen to the radio is at my girl's house and i always hear originals of reggae tunes i didnt know were covers and things like that... (something i should have known more about!)

Yes, I`m sure there is an "original" version. I seem to recall Sly on David Rodigan`s show talking about it as Double Barrel was apparently his first recording.
