I've been a long time fan of unashamed jump up (Here I come, Healing of the nation, Confucious etc) and of impossibly beautiful roots (like Heart of the congos for example).
But I'd always pretty much glossed over most rocksteady as mostly not fast enough for dancing and mostly not spacey enough for chilling with a few notable exceptions PB's fabulous greatest hits and bob andy's studio one songbook spring to mind. So for example, I bought the Phylis Dillon LP but only for the funky tune 'Woman of the Ghetto'
But now I think I'm finally getting the point.
Over the last few months, I've been hammering the Trojan comps - 'Lets do rocksteady' and 'Heptones - Peace and harmony'. Also 'Swing and Dine'
So beautiful - how did I miss all this before?
