Need help finding a record/cdr/mp3!

Postby dj745 » Tue Jan 11, 2005 8:23 pm

hi baffers, im trying to find an instrumental versionof a song called 'you make me feel brand new' originally by the stylistics but also covered by inner circle, boris gardiner, jc lodge/stan ryck, boys II men, simply red.

i am going to be the best man for a friends wedding very soon and he wants me to arrange an artist to do a dubplate/personalised version of this song for him.

i have spoken to a highly rated uk lovers rock artist who has agreed to do the song but i cant find a 'clean' version of this song anyway. i dont mind if it is the original or a reggae 'version'.

can anyone help out? any ideas?
thanks

All the best

just played the JC Lodge & Stan Ryck version, see what ye mean by needing a 'clean' version. Can you not get your singer friend to sing over it in a combination fashion (?)

wow that was a quick response!
Django- can you tell me any more about the boris gardiner version, ie when was it released/ reissued, what label, is the record easy to find at shops like dubvendor/ ernie bs? any help would be great

Dots69 yeah its a shame about the jc lodge b side not being clean, i thought of using it but its not going to work i dont think. The label its on (lovers leap (UK) is not a label ive come across much except for this single and another by yona could it be im falling in love which came out around 1996/97 i think does anyone know whos responsible for the production? it sounds very much like a mad professor production but i may be wrong!

btw the artist is peter hunningale, thats why the female harmonies on that particular version will not 'go'.

yep defo Neil Feaser at the control tower. Ariwa sent me them at the time. Lovers Leap seems to have been a short lived Lovers Rock Ariwa subsidary. There was also the Swing into Reggae label same time, equally short lived :

Got to be Mellow WENDY WALKER Swing Into Reggae
Feeling is killing Me BLACK MAGIC Swing Into Reggae

I have the Boris Gardiner cut on a 12" re-issue on Trojan from around 1986 (TROT 9088).

Version is clean, aside from a few backing vocals. Drops strictly drum and bass on occasions.

Can send an mp3 your way if needed.

All the best

wow what a day!!
after a few phone calls ive mangaed to speak to mr fraser (who was very helpful) who confirmed that lovers leap was one of his subsidery labels and that he can allow me to use the clean instrumental of his cut of the rhythm!
problem sorted, thanks for your help.
dots69- im thinking of getting a dubplate done myself, im thinking of a studio 1 rhythm, not sure which vocal i would get him to do though....time to pull out some of his old lps and sit back and take in some music, im sure i'll get the inspiration, i dont want to get him to do a regular kinda thing
